No. 6 Stanford Drops Arizona Men's Tennis, 6-1

TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 50-ranked Arizona men's tennis team fell to No. 6 Stanford Friday, 6-1. Arizona drops to 5-5 on the season, while the Cardinal improves to 9-2. The Wildcats lost the doubles point and won one singles match.

In doubles action, the Cardinal swept all three doubles matches. Sophomore Colin O'Grady and freshman Roger Matalonga fell in the No.1 position to the fifth-ranked doubles team David Martin and Scott Lipsky, 8-2, snapping the duo's eight match win streak. Junior Whi Kim and sophomore Paul Warkentin fell to James Pade and Sam Warburg, 8-6 at the No. 2 position. Clinching the point for Stanford, Sam Warburg and Carter Morris defeated the pair of junior Carl Hagman and freshmen Daniel Andrus, 8-2.

Earning the singles point for Arizona, Kim defeated No. 112 Scott Lipsky, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 1 position. On court two, Hagman fell to No. 19 David Martin, 6-2, 6-1. Warkentin lost to No. 42 Sam Warburg, 6-3, 7-6 (2), in the No. 3 slot. O'Grady was defeated by No. 81 James Pade, 6-3, 7-6 (3), at the No. 4 position. On court five, Matalonga suffered a loss to Carter Morris, 6-3, 6-3. Clinching the match for the Cardinal was Phillip Sheng who defeated Andrus, 6-2, 6-4, on court six.

Arizona will next host No. 5 California on Saturday, March 8 at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to start at noon.
