Men's Golf Travels to Murells Inlet, S.C. for Coastal Carolina Invitational

What's Happening This Week: WSU men's golf will travel to Murells Inlet, S.C. for the 2003 Coastal Carolina Invitational Mar. 10-11 at the Par-72, 6,950 yard TPC of Myrtle Beach...Dustin White fired a school record three round total of 204 to capture last year's individual crown...Cougars look to start the 2003 spring the same as last year, with two consecutive wins coming from the Inland Collegiate, and the Coastal Carolina...first and second rounds will take place Monday, Mar. 10, followed by the final round Tuesday, Mar. 11.
Field: The 14-team field will consist of Coastal Carolina, Arkansas, East Carolina, Furman, Louisville, Memphis, Michigan, Old Dominion, UCF, UNC-Charlotte, UNC-Wilmington, Virginia Commonwealth, Virginia Tech and Washington State.
Head Coach Walt Williams On The Coastal Carolina: 'I expect Dustin to repeat as individual champ and I look for us to finish in the top five as a team...I would be disappointed if we didn't finish at least that high...Dustin has a real opportunity to overcome several players ranked ahead of him who will compete at this event...I want to continue to build on the season and reach the top of our game by the time April comes so that we can be ready for the postseason.'
What Happened Last Tournament: The men's golf team tied for first with Gonzaga, and the women's team championed the 2003 Inland Collegiate at Lewiston Golf Course at Lewiston, Idaho Feb. 21...Leading the men's team in the one round event was Chad Carlson who shot an even par (36-36 - 72) for a tie for first and his highest showing as a collegian...Alex Dunlop made an impressive showing as an individual in his first tournament, finishing in a tie for fourth, and shooting just a 1-over par 73...Ryan Camp finished the round in a tie for seventh at 4-over, followed by Dustin White at a tie for 10th (38-39 - 77), and Isaac Woods (43-44 - 78), Ryan Ressa (38-40 - 78), and Ben Bryson (37-41 - 78) all tied for 13th to round out the reported statistics of the Cougar men's contingent.

White Hot: Dustin White ranks 173rd in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin performance index...White is ranked 76th towards the Golfstat Cup, an award given to the best male golf performers by golfstat.com...White has been selected as one of the Top 50 male players to watch during the 2002-03 season byGolfWorld magazine in its Sept. 6 issue...White is ranked 8th in subpar strokes per round at 4.32, and 10th in greens in regulation percentage at .747, according to golfstat.com.
