Aragon's NCAA Qualifying Mark Leads Bruin Men at Last Chance Meet

UCLA sophomore Ben Aragon's NCAA indoor automatic qualifying mark in the mile led Art Venegas' Bruin men's squad last weekend (March 7-8) at a last chance meet in Seattle, WA. The Bruins' qualified athletes will compete this weekend (March 14-15) at the 2003 NCAA Indoor T & F Championships, held in Fayetteville, AR and hosted by the University of Arkansas.

Aragon finished second in the mile in an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 4:00.38 (No. 14 on the current NCAA indoor chart).
Also improving their indoor marks were - sophomore Erik Emilsson in the 3000m (12th, 8:12.83); junior Pat Luke in the pole vault (4th, 17-0.75) and in the shot put, redshirt freshmen - Jeremy Silverman (1st, 59-5.75, NCAA provisional, No. 26 on the current NCAA Indoor chart) and Jake Knight (2nd, 58-3, NCAA provisional, No. 45 on the current NCAA indoor chart).
Other Bruins listed on the current NCAA indoor charts are - junior Nick Thornton in the 800m (47th, 1:50.04, NCAA provisional); sophomore Yoo Kim in the pole vault (19th, 17-4.50, NCAA provisional); junior Juaune Armon in the long jump (24th, 25-1.25, NCAA provisional); in the shot put, senior Scott Wiegand (4th, 65-3.25, NCAA automatic) and junior Dan Ames (6th, 64-8.75, NCAA automatic) and Ames in the 35lb. weight throw (4th, 70-1.75, NCAA automatic).
