ASU'S Tommy Smith Named Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player Of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - ARIZONA STATE senior forward Tommy Smith has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for March 3 - March 9, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Smith, from Phoenix, Ariz., averaged 20.5 points, 11 rebounds , 4.5 assists and 2.5 blocks against the Oregon schools., posting back-to-back double-doubles for the first time in his career. He put in 24 points on 10-of-18 shooting, while pulling down 11 rebounds, five assists and four blocked shots in the win over Oregon. In the victory over Oregon State, Smith scored 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds and four assists. For the week, he shot 17-of-33 (.515) from the field and 7-of-11 (.636) from the free throw line.
Arizona State (19-10, 11-7 in Pac-10) won at home against Oregon (91-77) and Oregon State (74-64) to close out the regular season. Up next, the Sun Devils will face Oregon in the Pac-10 Men's Basketball Tournament, on March 13 in Los Angeles, Calif.
It is the first weekly award for Smith, the 20th all-time honor for the Sun Devils.
