Tanya Ricioli Named Pacific-10 Gymnast Of The Week
March 11, 2003
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State's Tanya Ricioli has been named the Pacific-10 Gymnast of the Week for her performance last week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Ricioli won four individual event titles to lead OSU to a season-high 197.050 in a win over No. 13 Denver and Seattle Pacific on March 7. Of those four wins, Ricioli set or tied career-highs in three of them.
She won her fourth all-around title of the year with a career-high 39.575, and she had a career-high of 9.95 on beam to win that event for the third time this season. She tied her career-high of 9.925 on floor for her third win of the year on that event. She rounded out her wins with a 9.90 on bars. She now has a team-best 12 individual wins this season.
The junior All-American from Windsor, Calif., ranks 14th in the nation as an all-arounder, and she's tied for 11th on beam and 23rd on bars.
With her 39.575 score last week, Ricioli became only the second Beaver to score higher than 39.500 twice in the same season. She had a then-career-high 39.525 in the season opener.
This is Ricioli's third career Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week honor and the second this season. She was honored on January 28 after leading OSU to an upset of No. 1 UCLA this year, and she was honored once as a freshman in 2000.
OSU has earned three Gymnast of the Week honors this year. In addition to Ricioli's two, Lindsay Nelson was honored on February 25 for her performance in OSU's upset over then-No. 3 Utah.
