Men's Tennis Upsets No. 25 Wake Forest 4-3

March 12, 2003

Tempe, AZ- The Arizona State Men's Tennis Team expected a tough match Wednesday afternoon as they set to face the 25th-ranked Demon Deacons of Wake Forest, and received everything they were expecting.

In the end however, the Devils were able to come back and sweep four singles matches to take the win from the 6-3 Deacons.

The win brings the Sun Devil's record to 5-6 and they now hold an all-time record of 2-0 against Wake Forest.

In doubles play the Sun Devils were unable to secure the point as Chris and Clinton Letcher were the only ones to win their match with an 8-4 victory over David Bere and Derrick Spice.

It was in singles action that the Sun Devils hard work and determination found them in the winner's circle.

Again, both of the Letcher brothers won in singles adding to the momentum that the Sun Devils had already set in action with a win from Pim Van Mele against David Loewenthal.

With the points set at 3-2 in favor of ASU, and two singles matches to go, Chris Stewart stepped up and played an amazing match versus David Bere which ended in a 1-6, 6-1, 7-6(3) victory for Stewart, and Arizona State.

Up next the Sun Devils will face San Diego State (4-7), against whom the Devils hold an all-time 21-1 record, at ASU's Whiteman Tennis Center on Saturday March 15 at 12p.m.
