Greco To Play In WBCA All-Star Challenge
March 15, 2003
UCLA senior guard and Pac-10 scoring and steals leader Michelle Greco (LaCrescenta, CA) has been selected to play in the sixth annual Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Star Challenge on April 4 on the Georgia Tech campus in Atlanta.
The WBCA All-Star Challenge features 17 of the top senior NCAA Division I players, voted on by Division I head coaches, and the NCAA Division II, III and NAIA top senior vote-getters in The State Farm Player of the Year ballots.
Leading the college all-stars at point guard are Vanderbilt's Ashley McElhiney, North Carolina's Coretta Brown, Iowa State's Lindsey Wilson, BYU's Erin Thorn and Boston College's Brianne Stepherson.
Perimeter players participating in the contest include Greco, Tennessee's Kara Lawson, Notre Dame's Alicia Ratay, Tulsa's Allison Curtin, Villanova's Trish Juhline and Clemson's Chrissy Floyd.
Dominating the inside will be Vandy's Chantelle Anderson, Mississippi State's LaToya Thomas, Tennessee's Gwen Jackson, Plenette Pierson of Texas Tech, Jocelyn Penn out of South Carolina and Louisiana Tech's Cheryl Ford.
The All-Star Challenge Roster could change if any of the aforementioned players' teams are participating in the women's Final Four. In that case, alternates have been chosen based on voting results.
The game is part of a doubleheader at the WBCA's Night of All-Stars, which also features the WBCA's high school All-America game. The high school game will tip off the event at 6 p.m. ET and is part of the women's Final Four festivities.
Greco, who is averaging 18.9 points and 2.89 steals per game, was named to the All-Pac-10 first team. She is a finalist for the Lieberman Award, which honors the nation's top point guard, and is on the Watch List for the Wade Trophy for National Player of the Year.
