March 15, 2003

The seventh-ranked defending National Champions won their second consecutive tournament of the season Saturday afternoon finishing pool play at the Nike Blue and Gold Classic as the only team to remain undefeated with a 4-0 record. Due to heavy rain in Miami, the championship game scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. versus California and host Florida International was cancelled late Saturday night, crowning the Golden Bears (23-6) champs.

For the weekend, the Bears were led by Vicky Galindo's 7-for-13 performance (.538 BA), including three runs, one double, one triple and five RBI. Freshman Kristina Thorson recorded a 2-0 record for a 0.00 ERA from the circle, tossing 9.2 innings, allowing only five hits, no runs, whiffing seven batters with no walks.

California returns to action Thursday, March 20 at the Sacramento Capital Classic, facing Long Island at 5 p.m. at the four-day 11-team tourney.
