TEMPE, Ariz. -
The Arizona State women's basketball team will face Hawaii Thursday, March 20 at Wells Fargo Arena in the first round of Women's National Invitation Tournament.
Tickets for ASU's game with Hawaii go on sale Monday morning at 9 a.m. and can be purchased by calling the Sun Devil ticket office at (480) 965-2381. General admission tickets cost $6 for adults and $4 for ASU students and juniors/seniors. Reserved seats are $8, and floor seats are $11.
Thursday night's game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. Mountain Standard Time with the gates opening at 4:30 p.m. for fans wishing to watch the ASU men's NCAA Tournament game vs. Memphis on the arena video board, which tips off at 5:10 p.m.
The WNIT bid marks the fourth consecutive postseason invitation for the Sun Devils who played in the WNIT in 2000 and made NCAA Tournament appearances in each of the last two seasons. In 2000, Arizona State fell to Colorado State 66-54 in the first round of the WNIT at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colo.
'This is an incredible opportunity for our young program to get a chance to experience a taste of March Madness,' said seventh-year Arizona State head coach Charli Turner Thorne. 'To not have any veteran players out on the floor this year has been a challenge for this team, but to weather that with a winning season and now an invitation to play in the postseason is great. I am very proud of my team and excited about this opportunity to play a quality team like Hawaii.'
Arizona State finished the regular season with a 15-13 overall record, the team's third consecutive winning season, and ended up eighth in the league with a 7-11 Pac-10 mark. Hawaii brings a 16-13 record into Thursday night's game and fell to sixth-ranked Louisiana Tech in the semifinals of the WAC Tournament last week to end the regular season.
The winner of Thursday's night game between ASU and Hawaii will face the winner of a first-round match-up between Northern Iowa (18-10) and Baylor (20-10), being played in Waco, Texas, on Thursday. Dates and locations of second-round games will be determined after each game.
The WNIT features a field of 32 teams in a single-elimination format. All games, including the semifinals and championship game, will be hosted by participating schools at on-campus sites.
