No. 20 Baseball Downs USC 16-3 To Take Pac-10 Series Opener

TUCSON, Ariz.- The No. 20-ranked Arizona baseball team rapped out 19 hits enroute to 16-3 win over USC at Frank Sancet Field on Sunday. The victorysecured the Wildcats' first series win over the Trojans in 10 years.

Arizona improved to 21-8 overall and 2-1 in the Pac-10 with the win, whileUSC fell to an even 13-13 on the season and 1-2 in the conference with theloss.

The Wildcats erupted for 13 runs in the final three innings to blow openwhat was a one-run game.

Arizona starter Richie Gardner (6-0) picked up his team-leading sixth winof the season with eight solid innings on the mound. The junior right-handersurrendered just two runs, while striking out five and walking two.

Freshman Brad Boyer followed up his game-winning exploits from Saturdaywith a 4 for 5, three RBI-day at the plate on Sunday. The first-year Wildcatfinished the series 7 for 14 with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Junior Brian Anderson, who saw his 26-game hitting streak come to an end onSaturday, tallied three hits on Sunday, including a single, a triple and histeam-leading eighth home run of the season. Freshman Nick Hundley was a perfect 4 for 4 with four runs scored in the win.

Junior Moises Duran and freshman Jordan Brown also hit home runs in the game, the sixth and second home runs of the season for each, respectively.

Arizona will travel to Los Angeles next weekend for a three-game series atJackie Robinson Stadium with UCLA. First pitch for the series opener onFriday is set for 7 p.m.
