No. 8 Cal Leads Pioneer Electronic Classic After First Round

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - No. 8 California sits atop the leader board with a 296 after the first round of the Pioneer Electronic Bruin Classic Monday at the par 72, 6,254-yard Robinson Ranch Golf Club . The Golden Bears are four shots ahead of No. 12 UCLA (300) and eight shots up on No. 1 and two-time defending champion Pepperdine and No. 7 Southern California (304).

Cal has already won the Bay Area Classic this spring and is in search of its fifth tournament title this season.

USC's Mikaela Parmlid and Washington's Lindsay Morgan are tied for the top spot in the individual race at one-under par 71. Bears' senior Sarah Huarte is third with an even-par 72. Four players are tied for fourth at one-over par 73.

Also in the Top 15 for the Bears is senior Vikki Laing, who is tied for eighth with a 74. Senior Ria Quiazon and freshman Sophia Sheridan hold a share of 14th with rounds of 75.

Also competing for Cal, freshman Mika Takayama is tied for 41st at 79.

The second of three rounds tees off Tuesday at 8 a.m.
