With five Pac-10 teams selected to participate in the NCAA Tournament, it marks the third consecutive year in which the league sent at least five teams to the Tournament...The Pac-10 has responded with considerable success when five or more Pac-10 teams participate in the NCAA Tournament. In four previous NCAA Tournaments where the Pac-10 has sent at least five teams (1995, 1997, 2001, 2002), the league has produced a record of 44-19 (.698). In three of those four seasons, a Pac-10 team has reached the championship game...The Pac-10 has posted a record of 27-15 (.643) the past three years of the NCAA Tournament action...Over the last three years, eight of the 16 Pac-10 teams to have participated in the Tournament have reached the Sweet Sixteen, four advanced to the Elite Eight, while one (Arizona) reached the title game in 2001.

Pac-10 in the NCAA Tournament

*ARIZONA is making its 22nd appearance in the NCAA Tournament, posting a 36-20 (.643) record with four trips to the Final Four, including a national title in 1997. It's the 19th consecutive appearance for the Wildcats, the longest active streak in the NCAA.

*ARIZONA STATE made its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance, posting a 12-13 (.480) record. It's the first trip to the Tournament for the Sun Devils since 1995 and just their third appearance in the last 22 years.

*CALIFORNIA made its 13th NCAA Tournament appearance, posting a 18-13 (.581) record. It's the third consecutive appearance for the Golden Bears.

*OREGON made its eighth appearance, posting a 9-7 (.563) record. The Ducks made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1960-61.

*STANFORD made its 12th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, its ninth consecutive appearance. The Cardinal are 18-11 (.621) in NCAA Tournament play.

The Pacific-10 Conference has won more NCAA basketball titles (15) than any other conference in the country . . . Oregon's Tall Firs won the first NCAA Championship in 1939. Stanford claimed the national title in 1942, and California took the crown in 1959 . . . UCLA established a basketball dynasty that included 10 titles in 12 seasons and a winning streak of seven consecutive NCAA crowns. The Bruins' 11 basketball championships are double what any other school has ever won . . . In 1997, Arizona became the fifth different Pac-10 institution to capture the NCAA basketball title.


Pac-10 Notes

ARIZONA - Arizona won its 10th Pac-10 title. The Wildcats finished Pac-10 play with a 17-1 record, a Pac-10 feat matched by four other Arizona teams (1988, 1989, 1993, 1998) and Oregon State (1981)...UA is 10-2 vs. the 2003 NCAA Tournament field and 7-0 vs. nationally ranked opponents this season...UA has been ranked in 270 consecutive AP polls released during the regular season only...Arizona posted its 16th consecutive 20-win season...Senior guard Jason Gardner ranks third on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,942 points. He trails Sean Elliott (2,555/1985-89) and Bob Elliott (2,135/1973-77)...Gardner is one of four Pac-10 players all-time to post 1,500 points (1,942), 500 assists (622) and 200 steals (220)...Senior forward Luke Walton is one of three Pac-10 players all-time to achieve 1,000 points (1,145), 500 rebounds (645) and 500 assists (568)...Sophomore center Channing Frye is averaging 17.6 points, 9.2 rebounds and shooting 60.1 percent (86-of-143) from the floor over his last 12 games. In that span, Frye has six double-doubles and six 20-point scoring games...For the third consecutive season, Arizona set a new school record for average attendance (14,562)...Arizona is 82-8 (.911) since the start of the 1998-99 season when scoring at least 80 points... Naismith Hall of Fame Coach Lute Olson ranks second all-time in the Pac-10 with a 279 wins in league play. He trails John Wooden, who posted 304 (1949-75).

ARIZONA STATE - The Sun Devils posted their first 20-win season since 1995...At 11-7 and fourth in Pac-10 play, ASU had its best league finish since 1995 it finished third at 12-6...Ike Diogu, the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and the only freshman to earn All-Pac-10 honors, set the ASU freshman record for starts (32), points (607), field goals made (209), rebounds (249) and minutes (1,030). He has set school records for free throws made (180) and attempted (245) and his 18 rebounds vs. Oregon in the Pac-10 Tournament set the ASU freshman single-game mark...Diogu's 19.0 points per game is the third-best mark in Pac-10 history by a freshman. Only Cal's Shareef Abdur-Rahim (21.1 points per game in 1995-96) and USC's Harold Miner (20.6 in 1989-90) have posted better scoring numbers in their initial seasons.

CALIFORNIA - The Bears' 13-5 record in Pac-10 play equals their best league mark. The Bears were also 13-5 in 1994...Cal posted its third consecutive 20-win season and fifth in the last seven years. The three consecutive 20-win seasons match the longest such streak in school history (1946-48)...Senior forward Joe Shipp led the Pac-10 in scoring (20.3 ppg). He scored 1,666 points during his career, ranking third all-time on the school's career list...After pulling down all of 85 rebounds last season, sophomore forward Amit Tamir responded with 200 rebounds to rank ninth in the Pac-10 at 6.5 rebounds per game...Shipp (632 points), Tamir (463 points) and senior Brian Wethers (469 points) accounted for 68.0 percent of Cal's total offense...The Bears are 44-5 (.898) in Haas Pavilion the past three seasons - that's the best mark by any Pac-10 team over that period...Coach Ben Braun ranks second on the school's victory list with 139.

OREGON - The Ducks captured their first Pac-10 Tournament crown...Oregon posted back-to-back 20 win seasons for the first time since posting four straight 20-win campaigns from 1936-39...Oregon shot 77.4 percent from the free throw line, breaking the Pac-10 single-season record it set last season...Junior guard Luke Ridnour set a Pac-10 record by making 62 consecutive free throws...With 649 points this season, Ridnour became the fifth player in school history to score 600 points in a season...Ridnour established an Oregon single-season record with 218 assists and tied another with 63 steals...Junior guard James Davis led the Pac-10 with 90 three-pointers (2.73 per game). It's the third best single-season total in school history...Coach Ernie Kent picked up career win No. 200 against Stanford (Feb. 6).

OREGON STATE - Under first year coach Jay John, Oregon State posted six league wins for the first time since 1999...Oregon State's Philip Ricci led the league in rebounds (8.1 rpg). Should he hold that lead at the end of the postseason, he would become the first Beaver to lead the Pac-10 in rebounding since A.C. Green averaged 9.2 per game in 1985...Freshman guard Lamar Hurd averaged 33.4 minutes per game - most by a Pac-10 freshman.

STANFORD - In a preseason poll of media who covering Pac-10 basketball, Stanford was picked to finish seventh. All the Cardinal did was finish second with a 14-4 league record...Stanford has posted 10 or more league wins in 10 consecutive seasons. In the last six years of Pac-10 play, Stanford is 87-21 (.806). Only Arizona has more league wins with 89 over that same period...Stanford posted its ninth consecutive 20-win season...The Cardinal have won their first round game in NCAA play each of the last nine years...Senior guard Julius Barnes ranks ninth in the league in scoring with 16.0 points per game. With 1,053 career points, he became the 32nd player in school history to reach 1,000 points...Junior forward Justin Davis and sophomore forward Josh Childress led the Pac-10 in double-doubles with 11 each...Coach Mike Montgomery picked up career win No. 500 at UNLV (Dec. 21).

UCLA - Senior Jason Kapono became the 14th player in Pac-10 history to score 2,000 points. His 2,095 career points tie him for third all-time at UCLA. His 317 career three-pointers are a school best and second all-time in the Pac-10...Senior Ray Young was inserted into the starting lineup on Feb. 20 to replace injured Cedric Bozeman at point guard. He guided the Bruins to five wins over the last eight games, averaging 19.6 points on 46-of-89 (.517) shooting, including 19-of-30 (.633) from three-point range...The next head coach of UCLA will be the Bruins' eighth in the last 28 years and 12th overall.

USC - Sophomore guard Errick Craven finished the year with 73 steals, second most in a season by a USC player. His two-year total of 141 thefts already rank fifth on the USC career list...USC junior Desmon Farmer led the Trojans in scoring in 18 of 30 games this season, including 12 of the last 13 games. Over the last 13 games, Farmer averaged 21.4 points per game...Farmer became the 27th player in school history to reach 1,000 points. He enters the 2003-04 season with 1,062 career points...USC swept UCLA this season for the first time since 1992.

WASHINGTON - Freshman guard Nate Robinson scored 300 points and averaged 13.0 points, most by a UW freshman since Mark Sanford scored 378 points and averaged 14.0 points in 1995. A starter at cornerback on the UW football team, It is believed that Robinson is only the second player in Pac-10 history to earn a starting spot in both football and basketball, joining California's Tony Gonzalez (1995)...Junior guard Curtis Allen's career 87.7 percent success rate at the charity stripe ranks third all-time in the Pac-10...Five of the top nine scorers for the Huskies were freshmen.

WASHINGTON STATE - WashingtonWashington State junior Marcus Moore has scored 1,166 points in his career, good for 15th on the school's career list...Sophomore guard Thomas Kelati led the league in three-point accuracy, shooting 45.6 percent from beyond the arc...The next WSU coach will be the fifth in 18 years and the 15th in school history.

Pac-10 Odds and Ends

Double Digit Scoring: Only three Pac-10 players posted double digit scoring in every game this year: Ike Diogu (ASU-32 games), Joe Shipp (CAL-31 games), Luke Ridnour (ORE-33 games).
