Softball's Kristen Rivera Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week

SEATTLE - Kristen Rivera (Perris, Calif.) has been named the Pacific-10 Softball Player of the Week for March 17-23, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Rivera, a sophomore catcher and designated player, went 8-for-17 (.471) over the weekend as the Huskies won the Capital Classic championship with a 4-0 record and defeated Utah State in a game unrelated to the weekend tourney. Rivera led the team with eight hits, including two doubles and eight RBIs, while belting two home runs to bring her season total to 15. She put together a .941 slugging percentage, walked once and was perfect from the field in 20 chances.
It is the second conference award for River this season and her third overall. It also marks the 51st weekly award for the Washington softball program.
The Huskies will open conference play this weekend as they take on No. 6-ranked California on Friday, March 28 in Berkeley, Calif., and No. 9 Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif., on Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.
