Arizona Heptathlete Finishes Second with Postseason Qualifier

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona's Amanda Underwood finished second in the heptathlon at the Mike Maynard Wildcat Combined Events meet, which was held at Arizona's Roy P. Drachman Stadium. Underwood held on to her second-place standing and finished with 4,409 points to earn a spot in the field at the Pac-10 Combined Championships. Reidun Dailey of Western State was first with 4,836 points, and her teammate, Lindsay Yost, was third with 4,330 points.

In the final three events of the competition, Underwood had several great performances. In the long jump, she finished with a leap of 16 feet, 1 � inches (4.92m). The jump was a new personal best for her. Underwood had the second-best throw in the javelin, with a mark of 110-10 (33.78m). In the final event, the 800 meters, she finished with a time of 2:42.30, which sealed her bid to the Pac-10 Combined Championships. Her point total was also a new personal record.

The men's and women's track and field teams will be back in action at the Jim Click Shootout on Saturday, March 29. The meet will be the third of four home meets for the Wildcats at Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
