No. 2 Wildcats Defeat No. 19 Softball, 4-1

TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 2 Arizona Wildcats defeated No. 19 Oregon softball, 4-1, in front 658 fans at Hillenbrand Stadium in Tucson, Ariz., Saturday evening. With the win, Arizona improves to 33-3 overall, 2-0 Pacific-10 Conference and Oregon falls to 17-8, 1-2.
'Arizona is a very sound ball club and I thought we hung in there,' Oregon head coach Kathy Arendsen said. 'We need to be better both offensively and defensively tomorrow to give ourselves a chance.'
Arizona junior Lovieanne Jung hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to give the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead. Arizona added another run in the bottom of the third inning, scoring on a walk with the bases loaded.
Oregon senior Amber Hutchison hit her second home run of the season in the top of the fourth inning to break up Arizona pitcher Alicia Hallowell's no-hitter and pull the Ducks within a run, 2-1.
The Wildcats responded in the bottom of the fifth inning, extending their lead to 4-1 after a lead-off single by Autumn Champion. Courtney Fossatti then reached on an Oregon error and Lovieanne Jung was intentionally walked to load the bases. Champion scored on a sacrifice fly by Mackenzie Vandergeest and Fossatti scored the second run of the inning an Oregon error.
Hallowell improved to 20-2 this season with the win. Oregon freshman Amy Harris (6-6) struck six batters and walked just three in the loss.
The teams meet again tomorrow at noon at Hillenbrand Stadium.
