No. 6 Stanford Wins Ninth In A Row

EUGENE, Ore. - The sixth-ranked Stanford men's tennis team extended its winning streak to nine with a 6-1 Pac-10 victory at Oregon on Saturday afternoon in Eugene. The Cardinal improved to 14-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Ducks dropped to 8-7 and 0-2.

The Cardinal improved to 4-1 on the road this season by winning the doubles point and taking five of the six singles matches, including four in straight sets.

Stanford received straight set singles victories from sophomore Sam Warburg (Sacramento, CA) at No. 3, freshman James Pade (Woodside, CA) at No. 4, sophomore Phil Sheng (Thousand Oaks, CA) at No. 5 and redshirt junior Carter Morris (Washington, D.C.) at No. 6. In the only three-set match of the day, Cardinal senior Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY) prevailed at No. 2.

In doubles, the Cardinal took the point on the strength of wins from seniors Lipsky and David Martin (Tulsa, OK) at No. 1 and Sheng and Warburg at No. 3.

Stanford opens a six-match homestand on Friday against No. 28 USC at 1:30 p.m. at the Taube Tennis Center. The match will not count in the Pac-10 standings.
