No. 22 Softball Drops 3-0 Game At No. 13 Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. - No. 22 Oregon State dropped a 3-0 decision at No. 13 Arizona State in Sunday's Pacific-10 Conference softball action.
The Beavers fall to 22-16 on the season and 0-4 in the Pac-10 while Arizona State improves to 26-9 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
The Sun Devils got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening inning. ASU lead-off batter Jen Forner singled to center field and then scored when Clare Burnum made an errant throw to second base on a sacrifice bunt attempt. Burnum fielded three straight from that point, getting OSU out of the inning.
Oregon State tallied a hit in each of the first three innings but couldn't bring any runs across the plate. The Beavers loaded the bases in the top of the third with Burnum belting a double and Kelly Petersen and Shelly Prochaska each picking up walks but ASU reliever Desiree Serrano got a strikeout to end the threat.
Arizona State added to its lead in the bottom of the third inning. Kristen Farber tallied a two-out bloop single to left field and then stole second base. Kara Brun followed with a single past the diving glove of Brynnen Guthrie that plated Farber and gave ASU a 2-0 advantage.
The Sun Devils completed the scoring when Phelan Wright blasted a home run over the right-center field fence in the bottom of the sixth.Klever threw well in her first Pac-10 start, allowing just seven hits while striking out four batters.
Guthrie led the Beavers with a 2-for-3 effort from the plate and Burnum and freshman Vanessa Iapala each doubled on the afternoon.
Oregon State returns to Corvallis for a couple of days before traveling to Santa Clara for a non-conference double-header against the Broncos on Thursday. Game-one is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
