KovÃ¯Â¿Â½cs Finishes 2nd In 100m Breaststroke At US Spring Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The 2003 ConocoPhillips Spring National Championships continued on Friday with day four of the competition, where ï¿½gnes Kovï¿½cs recorded a second place finish in the 100m breaststroke to lead the Sun Devils on the second to last day of the championships.
Kovï¿½cs touched the wall in 1:09.28 after earning the number one seed during the morning prelims with a 1:09.35. The runner-up finish comes after winning the U.S. Championship on Wednesday in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:29.48.
Ahmed Hussein continued to impress in the backstroke events, finishing fourth in the 100m back with a time of 56.03. Hussein was the top collegiate finisher in the race, as he edged out two-time defending NCAA 100y backstroke champion Peter Marshall, who finished in fifth.
David Kolozar was the final Sun Devil to compete in the finals on Friday evening. He finished tied for 18th in the 100m butterfly with Canada's Jesse Jacks in a time of 55.58.
On Thursday evening, ASU swimmer Petra Banovic finished the 200m freestyle in 2:03.82 for 23rd place. The race had 136 athletes entered at the start of the morning preliminaries.
The final day of the 2003 ConocoPhillips U.S. Spring National Championships is tomorrow. Sun Devils Nick Brunelli and Claire Hedenskog will swim in their first events of the meet when they take part in the 50m freestyle, tomorrow's third event. ï¿½gnes Kovï¿½cs and Petra Banovic are slated to take part in the 200m IM.
