Spring Practice Comments from Linebacker Richard Seigler

April 4, 2003

Corvallis, Ore. - The following are comments from linebacker Richard Seigler after the first practice of 15 spring drills:

Q. Your impressions of the first day?

A. 'I thought practice today went pretty well. This team is starting all over with a new coaching staff; we're just trying to build relationships and learn the different schemes. We need to soak up as much as we can as quickly as possible.'

Q. It appears the defensive intensity and talking hasn't changed.

A. 'We definitely can't lose that fire that we have had over the last several seasons. When we have had that intensity we have been one of the top defensive teams in the Pac-10 Conference, so we can't take a step backwards, especially with the offensive firepower that we have. We really have high hopes for this season.'

Q. Does the defense have a chance to be as good as it has been the last couple of years?

A. 'I have no reason to think we will take a step back. The players know what kind of intensity they need to bring on the field and what we have done in the past to be successful. Right now, we are working on techniques and improving.'

Spring Drills for the Remainder of the week:
