No. 2 Softball Defeats No. 1 UCLA

April 5, 2003

The No. 2 softball team (36-3, 5-0) defeated No. 1 UCLA (32-3, 4-1), 3-0. This marks the 26th shutout this season for the Cats. Freshman Alicia Hollowell pitched seven innings, gave up one hit and struck out two batters. Hollowell improves to 23-2.

Arizona scored all three runs in the second inning. Junior Wendy Allen scored off of a single by sophomore Crystal Farley. A single to left field by freshman Autumn Champion scored senior Lisha Ribellia. Freshman Shelly Schultz scored off of a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Courtney Fossatti.

Arizona improves to 36-3 and 5-0 in the Pac-10. The Cats face UCLA tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Los Angeles, Calif.
