Arizona Men's Tennis Jumps To No. 33 In The Rankings

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona men's tennis team moved up 19 spots from No. 52 to No. 33 in the latest Omni Hotel national rankings administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Wildcats have won their last three home matches including wins over Pac-10 foes No. 11 Washington and No. 58 Oregon. Arizona has compiled an 8-8 overall record and a 2-2 Pac-10 record. Individually for the Wildcats, junior Carl Hagman is currently ranked No. 112.
Arizona swept its opponents last week and went 3-0 to close out the team's seven-match homestand. Arizona came out Wednesday, April 2, and cruised past NAU, 6-1. Sweeping the doubles point and only losing one singles point. Against Oregon on Friday, April 4, Arizona collected its first Pac-10 win of the season, moving its record to 1-2 in the Pac-10. The following afternoon, Arizona moved to 2-2 in the Pac-10 by defeating No. 11 Washington, 4-3. Arizona lost the doubles point but battled back and won four of the six singles matches to earn the team victory.
Hagman, a Copenhagen, Denmark, native has earned a 16-11 overall record and currently owns a four-match winning streak. During his streak, he has defeated two ranked opponents including No. 19 Matt Hanlin of Washington, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, and No. 71 Johan Berg of USC, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.
Arizona will be in action next when they travel to Berkeley, Calif., to face the California Golden Bears. First serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
