No. 33 Arizona Men's Tennis Falls to No. 3 California, 7-0

BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 33 Arizona men's tennis team lost to the third-ranked California Golden Bears, Friday, April 11, 7-0. Arizona lost the doubles point and was unable to win a singles match. Arizona falls to 8-9 on the season and 2-3 in the Pac-10, while the win improves California to 17-3 overall and 3-1 in the Pac-10.

In doubles action, the Golden Bears swept all three matches, earning the team its doubles point. On court one, Patrick Briaud and John Paul Fruttero of California defeated junior Whi Kim and sophomore Paul Warkentin, 8-3. Sophomore Colin O'Grady and freshman Roger Matalonga lost to Conor Niland and Balazs Veress, in the second position, 8-3. On court three, freshman Daniel Andrus and Carl Hagman fell to Or Dekel and Robert Kowalczyk, 8-2.

In singles play, Arizona fell in all six matches. Matalonga won the team's only set in his loss to Balazs Veress on court four, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0. Kim fell to No. 33 Conor Niland on court one, 6-0, 6-1. In the second position, No. 112 Carl Hagman fell to John Paul Fruttero, 6-3, 6-3, ending his four-match winning streak. Playing No. 3 singles for Arizona was Warkentin who fell to No. 111 Or Dekel, 6-3, 7-6. O'Grady fell to No. 58 Robert Kowalczyk, 6-2, 6-1. Andrus also ended his four-match winning streak with his loss to Wayne Wong in the No. 6 slot, 6-3, 6-1.
