April 12, 2003

LEWISTON, Idaho -- The No. 2 USC Women of Troy defeated No. 46 Washington State, 5-1 in Pacific-10 women's tennis, Saturday.

The win improved USC to 19-3, 5-1 Pac-10 while WSU dropped to 7-12, 0-7.

'We're at the point in our season where we are playing the toughest portion of it,' WSU Head Coach Cari Groce said. 'I can not reiterate enough how good the Pac-10 is and how tough it is to play in this conference.'

Groce added, 'I think we are a top 40 team, but I don't think we are a top 15 team and, unfortunately, that is all we have left on our schedule.'

The Women of Troy earned the doubles point by sweeping three matches, then captured four of five singles matches to post the victory.

The Cougars lone win came at No. 5 singles where Nora Gaal defeated Tiffany Brymer, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6.
