No. 16 Women's Tennis Drop Match to No. 1 Stanford Cardinal
April 12, 2003
Tempe, AZ- The No. 16 Arizona State Women's Tennis Team lost their second straight match Saturday afternoon with a grueling 6-1 fall to the No. 1 seed Stanford.
The loss sets the Devils back to an even 9-9 for the season and 2-5 in Pac-10 Conference play.
In doubles action, the Sun Devils were not able to gain any momentum, as Stanford swept all three matches and secured the point.
Singles proved to be a similar story as the Devils came out ready to play, but their efforts were fruitless as they lost 5 of the singles matches to the nation's top-ranked tennis team.
In one highlight of the match for the Devils, Adria Engel, ranked No. 11, stepped up to take down the No. 4 seed Amber Liu of Stanford, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Up next the Devils will have a week of rest before playing their final match of the season against in-state rivals No. 39 University of Arizona.
The match is set to be played Saturday, April 19 at noon, at ASU's Whiteman Tennis Center.
