Wong Joins Dockendorf and LaBatte at NCAAs
April 13, 2003
Seattle - Washington senior Stacy Wong will finally compete at the NCAA Championships. After missing the 2000 and 2002 seasons due to injuries, Wong qualified for an at-large berth into the NCAAs after the Regional Championship results were declared official Sunday. Wong tied with Nebraska's Richelle Simpson for first place on balance beam at the West Regional Championship held Saturday at Washington. She will compete in that event during the NCAA's individual championships on April 26 at Nebraska.
Huskies Carly Dockendorf and Tacia LaBatte received their assigned rotations today for the all-around championships that start on April 24. Both qualified for the NCAAs as the two highest finishers in the all-around not attached to either Nebraska or LSU, the teams to receive the West Region's automatic bids. Dockendorf, who won the uneven bars and tied for first on floor exercise, was third in the all-around while LaBatte placed fifth.
Both gymnasts will compete in the morning session of the first-round of the team competition. Dockendorf will rotate with LSU while LaBatte has been assigned to compete with Alabama. Dockendorf should benefit by LSU drawing the Olympic order rotation of vault, bars, beam and floor. She has scored 10s on both bars and floor this year.
