The defending national champion California softball team signed three athletes to letters of intent, announced head coach Diane Ninemire. The elite incoming class of 2004 will be joined by Sarah Adams (Half Moon Bay, CA), Gwen Arafiles (Stockton, CA) and Alex Sutton (Gilroy, CA).

Adams, a right-handed pitcher, currently posts a 0.00 ERA 34 innings into her senior campaign at Half Moon Bay High School. Out her junior season due to injury, Adams led the PAL in 2001 with a 0.07 ERA that included six no-hitters and two perfect games. She led the league in strikeouts per innings pitched and tossed a perfect game in the 2001 CCS Championships. For her accomplishments, she was named first team all-league, rookie of the year, first team all-county and second team All-Mercury. Adams is a current member of the 18-under Gold California Cruisers travel ball squad and has played for the 18-under Gold Salinas Storm and 16-under SJ Strikkers in 2002 and 2001, respectively.

Arafiles is a junior transfer first baseman from San Joaquin Delta Junior College. The 2003 team co-captain, Arafiles comes off an impressive first season at Delta where she was named first team all-conference, All-State and All-American. She posted a .518 BA in her freshman season, notching 10 home runs and 57 RBIs. At Lincoln High School, she was a four-year letterwinner, earning pre-season All-American recognition as a senior. In 2000, she was named the all-area Softball Player of the Year and is a three-time all-area first team selection. A two-time San Joaquin Athletic Association offensive MVP (2000, '01), she helped lead her team to the SJAA Championship title in her freshman season and a second place showing at the CIFs. Arafiles is a member of the 18-under Runnin' Rebels Gold travel team, helping lead the Rebels to the 2002 18-under Amateur Fastpitch Association National Tournament Title.

Sutton is a utility player from Archbishop Mitty High School. A four-year letterwinner, Sutton helped lead Archbishop Mitty to three league titles and the Central Coast Section Championship crown as a freshman. She is a three-year All-Blossom Valley Athletic League and All-Central Coast Section selection. Sutton received her high school's Sophomore of the Year award as well as being named Best Defensive Player of the Year in 2001. In her junior campaign, Sutton was selected as BVAL's Most Valuable Player and her team's MVP. She has played on the San Jose Strikkers and 18-under Gold Strike Zone travel club teams. With her travel teams, Sutton has advanced to nationals five times and placed seventh in the 2002 nationals held in Broken Arrow, Okla.
