No. 7 Stanford Shuts Out No. 26 Pepperdine

STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford men's tennis team improved to 19-3 on the season with a 7-0 win over visiting Pepperdine (14-10) on Tuesday afternoon in the 2002-03 regular season home finale at the Taube Tennis Center.

The seventh-ranked Cardinal returns to action on Friday at 1:30 p.m. against fourth-ranked UCLA in a match that will likely decide the Pac-10 Championship. Both teams will enter Friday's dual with a 5-0 Pac-10 record.

Tuesday's match against 26th-ranked Pepperdine was the final home regular season match for Cardinal seniors Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY) and David Martin (Tulsa, OK). And both Lipsky and Martin took advantage with impressive singles victories.

At No. 1 singles, 12th-ranked Martin outlasted 57th-ranked Calle Hansen 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. The 61st-ranked Lipsky posted a resounding 6-2, 6-0 victory over Diego Acuna at No. 2.

In doubles, second-ranked Lipsky and Martin improved to 23-7 on the campaign with an 8-4 triumph over ninth-ranked Acuna and Hansen.
