Five Swimmers Recognized On Pac-10 Academic Team

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State placed five swimmers on the Pacific-10 All-Academic Team, which was announced by the conference on Wednesday.
In order to be considered for the team, an athlete must have a 3.00 overall grade point average, be in at least her second year in school and be a starter or significant reserve.
Finlay, a senior industrial and manufacturing engineering major, has a 3.77 GPA and earned first team All-Academic honors for the third year in a row. She capped off her senior year with three top 15 finishes at the Pac-10 Championships, where she took 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke, 11th in the 200-yard breaststroke, and 15th in the 200-yard individual medley. She was also part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that set a school record at Pac-10s.
Hong, a sophomore, carries a 3.91 GPA as a pre-industrial engineering major. A backstroke and individual medley swimmer, she earned a win in the 200-yard backstroke in a dual meet victory over Fresno State this season.
Steven, a junior All-American, is a psychology major with a 3.85 GPA. She qualified for the NCAA Championships for the third season in a row and came through with All-American honors in both breaststroke events to become a five-time All-American. She turned in a sixth-place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke for OSU's highest ever finish on any event at the NCAA meet. She was 11th in the 100-yard breaststroke. She was a first team All-Academic selection last year as well.
Embertson, a sophomore business administration major, has a 3.66 GPA. She placed in the top 16 in two events at this year's Pac-10 Championship meet. She took seventh in the 400-yard individual medley and was 16th in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Huston, also a sophomore, is in the university exploratory studies program and has a 3.61 GPA. She helped the Beavers set school records in four different relay events at this year's Pac-10 Championships, where she placed 14th individually in the 50-yard freestyle race.
