UA Heptathlete Finishes 16th at Mt. SAC Relays

AZUSA, Calif. - The University of Arizona's Amanda Underwood competed in the heptathlon at Azusa Pacific University, which finished up Thursday afternoon. Her combined score of 4,444 points earned her a 16th-place finish in the competition. The point total is a new season's best for Underwood, improving her Pac-10 qualifying mark.
Underwood had several impressive performances over the course of the two-day affair. On the first day, she ran a time of 15.68 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles with a slight head wind. She went on to a personal best in the high jump with a leap of 5-1 ï¿½ (1.56m). In the shot put, she finished with a best throw of 37-9 ï¿½ (11.52m). She finished the first day of competition in the 200 meters, finishing in 26.68 seconds. After the first four events, Underwood stood in 13th place overall.
In the final three events, which were contested today, Underwood leapt 16 feet, 1 ï¿½ inches (4.91m) in the long jump. She had a strong throw in the javelin, finishing with a mark of 106-3 (32.40m). She finished the final event, the 800 meters, in 2:39.75 to close out the day with her improved heptathlon total.
The rest of the Wildcat squads continue competition this weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. on the Mt. San Antonio College campus.
