April 17, 2003
Tucson, Ariz. (April 17) - The University of Arizona women's basketball team has signed Linda Pace to a National Letter of Intent, announced head coach Joan Bonvicini on Thursday. Pace will join the Wildcats for the 2003-04 season.
A 5-8 guard, Pace prepped at Francis Parker School in San Diego, Calif. As a senior in 2002-03, she averaged 29.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while leading her team to a 15-12 record. The third-leading scorer in San Diego County this year, Pace was a three-time first team All-Coastal League choice, a two-time first team All-San Diego County selection and was a first team All-California Division IV honoree in 2003. She was her team's Most Valuable Player three years in a row and was a San Diego Union-Tribune Scholar-Athlete twice.
Pace finished her career at Francis Parker as the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,529 points, a number which also places her sixth all-time in San Diego County. This season, she reached double digits in scoring in all but one game and logged 40 points or better in four different contests.
'We're very excited to have Linda Pace join our program,' said Bonvicini, who just wrapped up her 12th season at helm of the Wildcat program. 'Linda is a great perimeter player who has good quickness and is a prolific scorer. She's a great fit for us, both as a player and a quality student.'
The Wildcats ended the 2002-03 season with a 22-9 overall record and earned their first NCAA Tournament berth in three years. Their 13-5 Pac-10 record earned them a tie for second in the league standings, equaling their best conference finish ever.
