Gordon and Walker Defeat No. 1 Doubles Team, But Bruins Fall to Stanford

Palo Alto, CA - The No. 15 UCLA women's tennis team fell to Stanford on Friday afternoon in Palo Alto by the score of 6-1. Despite the duo of Sara Walker and Laura Gordon defeating the No. 1 doubles team in the country, Stanford took the doubles point and five of the six singles matches. Feriel Esseghir claimed the only point for the Bruins on the day. UCLA falls to 13-9 overall, 4-3 in the conference, while the Cardinal wins its 16th straight, bringing its record to 18-1, 6-0 Pac-10.
UCLA prevailed on doubles court one, where Walker and Gordon beat No. 1 Lauren Barnikow and Erin Burdette, 9-7. Stanford won on courts two and three, where Alice Barnes and Amber Liu beat Sarah Gregg and Susi Wild, 8-2, and Emilia Anderson and Story Tweedie-Yates defeated Shilpa Joshi and Anya Loncaric, 8-5.
On singles court one, No. 4 Liu beat No. 12 Walker 3-6, 6-2, (10-8), while No. 14 Barnikow knocked off No. 71 Wild, 7-5, 6-3. Esseghir's win was over No. 35 Burdette, 6-4, 2-6, (11-9), and No. 9 Barnes beat Gordon on court four, 6-4, 6-2. At singles spots five and six, Anderson defeated Loncaric 6-3, 6-2, and Tweedie-Yates beat Joshi, 6-3, 6-2.
The Bruins will resume play on Saturday at noon against No. 5 California.
