UA Track & Field Adds to Success at Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. - The University of Arizona's men's and women's track and field teams continued to add to their success Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays. There were no new champions or school records, but the Wildcats had several impressive performances to prove that they can compete with the best in track and field.
In Friday's men's discus action, sophomore Sean Shields finished second with a throw of 180 feet, 8 inches (55.08m). Aaron Powell improved his season's best 800-meter time to 1:52.05. The Wildcats added two top-ten finishes in the men's 400 meters. Jevon Mason finished third overall with a time of 47.10. Teammate Matt Lea improved his NCAA Regional and Pac-10 qualifying marks, finishing sixth overall in 47.38 seconds. Arizona's two runners in the men's 1,500 meters were able to improve upon their season's best times. Jin Daikoku finished in 3:51.11, while Robert Cheseret crossed the line at 3:54.41.
Beth Hoge was the only runner competing for the women on Friday. She finished sixth in the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:25.16, improving her NCAA Regional and Pac-10 qualifying time.
The Wildcats will conclude competition today at the Mt. SAC Relays, with action in several sprinting events and the much-anticipated relays.
