CARDINAL TRAVELS TO PAC-10 INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Stanford men's tennis team begins post-season play this weekend with the Pac-10 Individual Championships on Thursday-Sunday in Ojai, California ... The event will be held in conjunction with the 103rd annual Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament ... There will be two flights --- championship and invitational --- with a 32-player singles draw and 16-team doubles draw in each flight ... In the championship flight, Stanford entered seniors Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY) and David Martin (Tulsa, OK), sophomore Sam Warburg (Sacramento, CA) and freshman KC Corkery (Manhattan Beach, CA) in singles and Lipsky/Martin and Corkery/James Pade (Woodside, CA) in doubles ... In the invitational flight, the Cardinal entered redshirt junior Carter Morris (Washington, D.C.), junior Joe Kao (Fullerton, CA), sophomore Phil Sheng (Thousand Oaks, CA) and freshman Pade in singles and Morris/Warburg and Kao/Sheng in doubles ... Since 1987, the Cardinal has won eight Pac-10 Championship singles titles and seven doubles titles ... The Cardinal last claimed the Pac-10 Singles Championship in 2000 (Geoff Abrams) and the doubles championship in 2001 (K.J. Hippensteel/Alex Kim).
STANFORD WINS 14TH PAC-10 TEAM TITLE: Stanford clinched its 14th Pac-10 Men's Tennis Team Championship, and sixth in the last seven seasons, with a pair of impressive road victories in Los Angeles ... In a battle of conference unbeatens on Friday, the fifth-ranked Cardinal edged third-ranked UCLA 4-3 ... Sophomore Sam Warburg clinched the win by breaking a 3-3 tie with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 victory over Chris Lam at No. 5 singles ... Warburg was the Pac-10 hero for the Cardinal in 2002-03, as he also broke a 3-3 tie with a three-set singles win against California on April 8 on The Farm ... The Cardinal then wrapped up its perfect 7-0 Pac-10 season with a 7-0 win over USC on Saturday.
