No. 61 Wild Upsets No. 10 Peterson of USC at Pac-10 Tournament

Ojai, CA - Susi Wild scored a major upset this morning at the Pac-10 Championships in her first-round match against USC's Jewel Peterson, who is ranked 10th in the nation. Wild, the 61st-ranked player in the latest list, won 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. In her second-round match, Wild fell in a tight contest to Erin Boisclair of Washington, 7-6(3), 7-6(3).
Wild, a late addition to the draw, accompanied five other Bruin competitors between the two singles draws this afternoon. Laura Gordon fell to No. 5 Adria Engel of Arizona State, 6-2, 6-1. Shilpa Joshi fell to Ester Bak of Oregon, 6-4, 6-3, and Anya Loncaric fell to Lauren Colalillo of Arizona State, 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-4.
In the invitational draw, Nina Yaftali defeated Kathy Chi of Washington, 6-2, 6-4 and moved on to defeat Kara Guzman of Stanford, 6-2, 6-2. Yaftali will play Nicole Havilcek of California tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. Kate Jolson lost her first-round match to Joanna Kao of Stanford, 7-6, 6-2.
Doubles play will begin tomorrow, with one UCLA duo entered into the main doubles draw. Joshi and Loncaric will play No. 21 Jewel Peterson and Tiffany Brymer of USC at 12:30 p.m.
