April 25, 2003
EUGENE - Arizona shortstop Lovie Jung hit a second-inning grand slam to lead top-ranked Arizona to a 8-0 victory over No. 20 Oregon at Howe Field Friday. With the win, Arizona remains atop the Pac-10 standings at 43-4 overall, 12-1 Pac-10 while Oregon is 26-15, 4-9.
'The Pac-10 is always going to be battle and we have to be ready to play again tomorrow,' Oregon head coach Kathy Arendsen said. 'As long as we come out prepared and ready each day, we're going to be in a position to get wins. What matters is how we respond tomorrow.'
Jung hit an RBI single in the first inning to put Arizona ahead 1-0. After a single each by Crystal Farley and Autumn Champion as well as an Oregon error that put Courtney Fossatti on in the second inning, Jung added her fifth RBI with a grand slam over the center field fence to extend the Wildcats' lead to 6-0.
Following a 26-minute rain delay, first baeman Erin Palomarez drove in Jung and catcher Mackenzie Vandergeest, giving Arizona an 8-0 lead in the fourth inning.
Oregon freshman Beth Boskovich and senior Lynsey Haij each finished 1-for-2 to lead Oregon offensively. Freshman Amy Harris (12-11) picked up the loss while Arizona freshman Alicia Hollowell (29-3) earned the win.
