OSU, USC Rained Out Of Baseball Series Opener
April 25, 2003
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State's Pacific-10 baseball game against Southern California was rained out Friday evening. The game will be made up on Saturday; the Beavers (18-19 overall, 4-8 Pac-10) and Trojans (21-19, 6-6) will play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Saturday's games will be joined in progress at 3 p.m. by KEJO-AM (1240). OSU and USC will conclude their series Sunday at 1 p.m., with that game also broadcast on KEJO.
This weekend's games continue the Oregon State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's 2002-03 Food Drive. The Beaver student-athletes have already gathered over 35,000 pounds of food; their goal for the academic year had been 20,000 pounds.
At the baseball games Saturday and Sunday, fans are asked to bring two cans of food or make a minimum donation at the gate. As a token of thanks, fans will receive a coupon good for a free small popcorn at the concession stand, courtesy of Sodexho Marriott.
The SAAC is an organization with representatives from all 15 of Oregon State's varsity sports. The group wants to show its appreciation for the support it receives from the community by organizing projects to help those in need of assistance.
The food collected at the events will go to Linn-Benton Food Share.
'We really appreciate the support the Food Drive has received from Oregon State fans this year,' said Adam Daniel, a wrestler who is the SAAC Community Involvement chairman this year. 'We've reached the goal we'd set, but every donation we get the rest of the year is just as important as the ones we've had so far.'
The final Food Drive events will be the softball games against California and Stanford on May 9-10.
