Suggs To Be Fifth First-Round Pick In Four Years

April 25, 2003

As one of just five schools to have at least one NFL first-round draft pick in the last three years, Arizona State expects to have its fourth consecutive first-round pick this weekend in Terrell Suggs.

Suggs, who had an NCAA record-shattering 24 sacks in 2002, is expected to be drafted in the top ten.

The four previous Sun Devil first-round picks in the past three years were Erik Flowers, drafted by Buffalo in 2000, Adam Archuleta to the St. Louis Rams and Todd Heap to the Baltimore Ravens in 2001, and Levi Jones drafted by Cincinnati in 2002. Arizona State shares the first-round draft pick status in the last three years with Miami, Florida State, Florida and Syracuse.

Miami has had a total ten players drafted in the first round over the last three years. Florida State had five players drafted in the first round over those three years. Florida has had four players go in the first round, while Syracuse has had three.

Suggs is an Arizona native who came to Arizona State from Hamilton High School in Chandler.
