Women in Eighth after Two Rounds at the Pacific-10 Championships

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Washington State women's golf team finished day two of the Pacific-10 Championships in eighth place at the Par 72, 6,160 yard Trysting Tree Golf Club at Corvallis, Ore.
Maria Kostina improved on her first round total of 5-over by one stroke to move up five spots into a tie for 19th to lead the Cougars. Kim Welch shot an identical score of 5-over par in rounds one and two to finish the day knotted at 24th. Stephanie Parsley benefited from birdies on the back nine to move up into a tie for 30th, followed by Jay-Lee Longbottom at 41st, Donna Bell at a tie for 55th, and Ashleigh Gilhuly in 58th place as an individual. Blair O'Neal of Arizona State leads all players at 2-under.
Head Coach Walt Williams said, 'We made up ground on Stanford and Washington and if we play well tomorrow, and get a few more putts to fall, we can catch them.'
As a team the Cougars shot three strokes better than yesterday, finishing at 309, and sitting in eighth place ahead of Oregon and Oregon State. WSU is just three shots back of seventh place Stanford, and seven strokes back of sixth place Washington. California leads the field heading into the final round.
WSU will try and move up the leaderboard tomorrow in the final round of the 2003 Pac-10 Championships.
