Women's Doubles Teams Fall In Pac-10 Championship Semifinals

OJAI, Calif. - The semifinals marked the end of Washington's doubles teams' conference tournament run as the third day of the Pac-10 Women's Tennis Championships came to a close in Ojai, Calif., Saturday.
The All-American pair of Claire Carter and Darija Klaic, as well as the Husky duo of Colleen Gray and Dea Sumantri, suffered semifinal defeats in the doubles main draw to teams from Arizona and Cal, respectively. Carter and Klaic, ranked ninth in the nation, fell to the Wildcat team of Maja Mlakar and Emilie Scribot, 8-3. Gray and Sumantri met the nation's fourth-ranked doubles team in Christina Fusano and Raquel Kops-Jones, falling also by the score of 8-3.
Also competing for the Huskies in the invitational singles draw was Gray, who lost in the semifinals to Jody Scheldt from Cal, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. Washington had five additional players competing in the singles back draw. Andrea Coulter and Stephanie Svanfeldt picked up wins, while Carter, Kathy Chi and Amy Allen each lost in straight sets.
