Ducks Finish in Sixth After Two Rounds at Pac-10 Championships

GLENDALE, Calif.- - After two rounds Monday at the 6,736-yard, par-72 Oakmont Country Club, the Oregon men pulled into the sixth position to finish the day at 34-over par (754). Senior John Ellis led the Ducks throughout both rounds of the Pac-10 Championships and currently sits tied for 12th at 3-over (147).
After the first round Monday, Oregon found themselves at the bottom of the pack in ninth position at 19-over (379). With the aid of Gregg LaVoie and Ellis carding even 72s in round two, the Ducks were able to jump into the sixth spot just two strokes ahead of Oregon State (756).
Prior to scoring an even-72 in the second round, Ellis finished the first round at 3-over (75) with birdies on No. 1 and 18. Despite a double bogey on No. 6 in the second round, he was able to perfect his game on the back nine with four birdies on No. 12, 16, 17 and 18.
Seated in first place, and seven strokes ahead of Stanford (733), is No. 11 UCLA at 6-over (726). The Bruins' led throughout both rounds recording a 364 in the first and 362 in the second. Following Stanford in third place is No. 20 Washington at 17-over (737).
Oregon State's Cameron MacKenzie finished the day atop the leader board at 4-under (140). MacKenzie is closely followed by Cardinal Jim Seki at 3-under (141) and four other competitors at 1-under (143).
The Ducks head into the third round of the Pac-10 Championships Tuesday just 11 strokes behind No. 16 Arizona State (743).
