Men's Golf Closes Gap in Third Round at Pac-10 Championships

GLENDALE, Calif. - Washington State men's golf is in tenth place and climbing after three rounds at the Pacific-10 Championships at Oakmont Country Club at Glendale, Calif.
WSU entered the day three shots back of ninth place USC, and now sits just one shot back of the Trojans, and two shots back of eighth place California. WSU used 15 birdies in round three for a team total of 372, the lowest round of the tournament for the Cougars. UCLA leads Arizona by 23 strokes for the team championship.
Five out of six Cougar golfers shot better scores in round three, led by Ryan Ressa's even par round that moved him up 13 places for a tie at 37th. Ryan Camp leads all Cougars at a tie for 31st after shooting a 1-over 73 along with Isaac Woods who shot 8-over for the round. Dustin White is notched at a tie for 40th, followed by Ben Bryson at 51st, and Chad Carlson at 56th. John Merrick of UCLA leads all individuals at 3-under.
Head Coach Walt Williams expected the Cougars to turn things around after an inconsistent second round, and now the Cougars are in striking distance of eighth place with one round to go.
The Cougars look to climb the leader board in the final round of play tomorrow at the 2003 Pac-10 Championships at Glendale, Calif.
