Cal Places Eighth at Pac-10 Championships

GLENDALE, Calif. - Junior Peter Tomasulo and freshman Michael Wilson were the standout performers in California's eighth-place finish Wednesday at the Pac-10 Championships at Oakmont Country Club. The Golden Bears concluded the three-day tournament strong with a plus-four 364 for a total score of 1505.

Cal finished only two shots behind sixth-place Oregon State (1503) and one back of Oregon (1504). UCLA ran away with the conference crown by 27 shots at minus-one 1439. Arizona took second at 1466, followed by Arizona State (1475).

Tomasulo carded a minus-two 70 in the final round to grab a share of sixth place at plus-one 289. Wilson jumped seven spots to a tie for eighth (290) following a round of 69. Cal's Chris Ancheta also finished strong with a 72 today and tied for 27th with a 301.

UCLA's John Merrick began the day tied for first with Stanford's Jim Seki, but after shooting a minus-nine 63, Merrick cruised to a 10-shot victory at minus-12 276. Seki shot a respectable 73 to tie Arizona State's Brady Stockton for second at 286.

The Bears now await word of their NCAA Tournament fate.
