Wilson Named Pac-10 Co-Freshman of the Year

BERKELEY - California golfer Michael Wilson was named Pac-10 Co-Freshman of the Year along with Arizona State's Alejandro Canizares. Golden Bear junior Peter Tomasulo was selected first team All-Pac-10 for the second straight year, while Wilson garnered second team honors.
Wilson, from Pacific Grove, Calif., posted seven Top 10 finishes in 11 tournaments this season, including a tie for eighth at the Pac-10 Championships. His best performance of the year was a win at the Mid-Pines Intercollegiate in his first college tournament. Wilson ranks second on the Cal squad with a 71.6 stroke average.
Tomasulo has been the Bears' top golfer the each of the last three season. He is ranked No. 30 nationally and leads the team with a 70.6 stroke average. In 12 tournaments, Tomasulo has posted eight Top 10 showings, including a tie for sixth at Pac-10s, and has placeed lower than 12th only once this season. Last month, the Long Beach, Calif., product was chosen as one of eight members of the United States' 2003 Palmer Cup team.
Cal is coming off an eighth-place finish at the Pac-10 Championships. The NCAA Regional selections will be announced on Monday, May 5.
