No. 5 Softball Drops To Oregon State, 4-2

SEATTLE. - The No. 5-ranked Washington softball team (40-11-1, 7-9 Pac-10) dropped to Oregon State (31-25, 4-12), 4-2, this afternoon at the Husky Softball Stadium.
The Beavers jumped out to the early 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single by Vanessa Iapala, The hit scored Lisa Allen who had reached base on a lead off double.
The Huskies answered in the bottom half of the frame, knotting the score at one apiece when Kathy Fiske scored on a single up the middle by Amanda Oleson. Fiske had led off the inning being hit by a pitch and moved to third on a Dena Tyson single and a walk to Rita Roach.
Oregon State pulled ahead in the fifth inning on a two-run home run by Clare Burnam. Steph Adams led off the rally with a double off the centerfield wall and scored when Burnam smacked her ninth home run of the season over the left-centerfield fence.
OSU added an insurance run in the sixth on a pair of hits. Iapala reached on a double to right-center and score on a single through the right side by Adams.
Washington attempted a seventh inning comeback, scoring Aimee Minor on a Fiske fielders choice but would get no closer as Amy Klever got the next batter to pop-up to the short stop to seal the Beaver victory.
The Dawgs stranded 10 runners on base, while Oregon State marooned six.
Klever (8-7) notched the win as she gave up eight hits, walked two and struck out five. Bollinger (22-8) suffered the loss with eight hits, two walks and six strikeouts.
The Huskies close out their home schedule on Saturday and Sunday with games against Oregon. Saturday's game will begin at 2 p.m., while Sunday's match-up is slated for 1 p.m.
