May 7, 2003
Corvallis, Ore. - Oregon State University senior wide receiver James Newson has been selected to the College Football News Preseason Honorable Mention All-America wide receiver team.
Newson set the OSU record for single season receiving yards last season with 1,284, and added the single season touchdowns receiving mark with 12. He already possesses the career receiving yards record with 2,266 and will likely break the career receptions mark this season - he enters the 2003 campaign with 132.
Darius Watts of Marshall, Lee Evans of Wisconsin, Michael Clayton of LSU, and Bernard Barrian of Fresno State joined Newson on the honorable mention team. First team members include Roy Williams of Texas and Rashaun Woods of Oklahoma State. Larry Fitzgerald of Pittsburgh, Mike Williams of USC, and Reggie Williams of Washington are on the second team.
The Beavers' Steven Jackson earned first team at running back by the CFN earlier this month.
