New NCAA Legislation Changes Dates For ASU's Camp Tontozona

May 7, 2003

Arizona State University has re-set the 2003 dates for its annual preseason football workouts at Camp Tontozona for Friday, August 15 through Saturday, August 23, 2003. The annual Camp Tontozona scrimmage will be held on Saturday, August 23 at 9 a.m. The facility is located 17 miles east of Payson, Arizona in the Tonto National Forest on land owned by the university.

New NCAA legislation was passed recently which allows institutions to practice no more than 29 times prior to the first football contest. As part of the new legislation, Sunday workouts count toward the total of 29; under the old rule they did not count. This new system of counting those practices has altered the dates.

Arizona State opens the 2003 football campaign on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. versus Northern Arizona University at Sun Devil Stadium/Frank Kush Field.
