Beavers Tabbed No. 16 by Athlon Sports

Corvallis, Ore. - Athlon Sports has selected the Oregon State University football program No. 16 in the nation in its preseason top 25 rankings. The publication's feature on the Beavers is available on-line at www.athlonsports.com.

The Beavers return 50 lettermen from last year's 8-5 Insight Bowl team, including the second-highest number of starters in the Pac-10 Conference. Postseason honors candidates include tailback Steven Jackson, linebacker Richard Seigler, wide receiver James Newson, quarterback Derek Anderson, and defensive linemen Dwan Edwards and Bill Swancutt.

Oregon State, under the direction of head coach Mike Riley, opens the season Thurs., Aug. 28 at home against the Sacramento State Hornets at Reser Stadium. The seven-game home schedule also includes Washington, Arizona State, Stanford, Arizona, New Mexico State, and Boise State.
