Bruins Move Up to Fifth after Second Day

The 11th-ranked UCLA women's golf team moved into fifth place after 36 holes at the NCAA West Regional, hosted by Arizona State at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, AZ.
The Bruins posted a team score of 12-over par 300 Friday and have a two-round total of 598, one shot behind fourth-place Arizona State and two shots behind third-place Pepperdine. USC leads the field at 581, followed by Oklahoma State at 590. Ohio State is sixth at 601, Washington State is seventh at 603 and Stanford is eighth at 608.
The top eight teams following tomorrow's round advance to the NCAA Championships at Purdue University, May 21-24.
For the Bruins, sophomore Charlotte Mayorkas remained among the Top 10, tied for ninth at three-over par 147 after posting a second round score of 77. Junior Gina Umeck posted the team's low round of the day, a one-over par 73, and is tied for 13th at 148, four-over par. Freshman Susie Mathews is tied for 24th at six-over par 150 and junior Hana Kim is tied for 39th at 153. Melissa Martin is tied for 86th at 162.
Sunny Oh of UNLV leads the field at six-under par 138 after posting a second round score of 71. Tanya Dergel of USC and Kim Welch of Washington State are tied for second at two-under 142.
Final round action continues Saturday.
