Jason Gatewood Wins High Jump at Pac-10 Multi Championships

University of California junior Jason Gatewood won the high jump event (6-8.25) at Saturday's Pac-10 Multi-Event Championships. Gatewood, along with teammate Elzunia Lamb are competing in the two-day decathlon-heptathlon conference meet hosted by USC.
After the first day of competition, Gatewood stands in seventh-place with 3543 points. In the heptathlon, Lamb is sixth with 2953 points. Washington State's Darrion Powell and Ellannee Richardson lead the mutli-event meet with 3945 and 3430 points, respectively.
In other decathlon events, Gatewood placed fifth in the long jump (22-6.25) and eighth in the 100m dash (11.43). In the heptathlon, Lamb's highest place was fifth in the 110m hurdles with a season-best time of 14.66. Lamb, a redshirt freshman, is making her first appearance at the conference multi-meet. She leads the Bears in the long jump (19-8.75) this season.
The Pac-10 Multi-Event Championships conclude Sunday, May 11. Decathlon events include the 110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1500m run, while the heptathlon events include the long jump, javelin throw and 800m run. The results from the multi-meet will be added to the total score of next weekend's Pac-10 Track and Field Championships Saturday-Sunday, May 17-18, at USC.
