Men's Tennis Season Comes To An End With 4-2 Loss To Fresno State

STANFORD, Calif. - Forty-first ranked Fresno State University defeated 32nd-ranked Arizona State University in the first round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Team Championship on Saturday morning at the Taube Tennis Center. The Bulldogs improved to 18-8, while the Sun Devils concluded their season at 9-12. After dropping the doubles point, the Bulldogs won four of the five singles matches, including three in straight sets.
The Bulldogs took a 2-1 advantage thanks to wins from junior Stefan Suta (Schwaebisch-Gmue, Germany) at No. 2 and freshman Andy Sinn (Aarau, Switzerland) at No. 6, but the Sun Devils came back to tie it after junior Chris Stewart (Adelaide, Australia) was victorious at No. 3.
Junior Hector Almada (Hermosillo, Mexico) then put Fresno State on top for good with an impressive 6-2, 6-3 upset over 89th-ranked Pim Van Mele (Tremelo, Belgium) at No. 1.
Junior Alex Krohn (Santa Rosa, CA) locked up the Fresno State victory by coming from a set down to defeat Chris Letcher (Melbourne, Australia) 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4.
Fresno State's singles victories came after Arizona State won two of the three doubles matches to take the first point of the dual. Chris Letcher and Stewart provided the deciding victory with an 8-4 triumph over 21st-ranked Almada and Sergiu Modoc (Yorba Linda, CA) at No. 1.
